State Shutdown

Here in Minnesota the state goverment has been shut down since July 1st. There was a budget stalemate or something. I really don't pay a lot of attention to those kinds of things. I'm a little busy, you know.

It hasn't affected us directly but two years agp, it would have impacted our lives significantly. We would have been stuck in Florida, indefinitely, waiting for our paperwork to be accepted and cleared by the Minnesota agency responsible for adoptions.

I know there are many families affected by this shutdown- dad's that are out of work, support services for special needs children, etc.- But when I heard the story of this family stuck in Cedar Rapids, IA, the impact of this shutdown really hit home.

Aaron just said, "Oh, we would've just come home." I know a family here whose daughter was born in MS, and after 4 weeks the agency just told them to go home. They'd been home 2-3 weeks by the time MS got everything together and cleared them to go home!

My agency posted about another story of a family who is from Somerset, WI but they are stuck in Minnesota with their newly adopted baby.

So close, yet so far... Ugh! So stressful!
