Who is This Vision in White?

This is my dear aunt Mary, who has been better know as Sister Maria since she was a very young woman. She is my mom's sister and she is a nun in the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Tereasa. It is always very special when she comes to visit. Because she has taken a vow of poverty, she does not travel home very often, usually, only once every 10 years. She is home on a special visit because my grandmother is very ill.

Before I was a Christian, I used to be very afraid of her. I fearerd her judgement and criticism. Now all I feel is the deep love she has for me, my husband and my children. I had a short time to visit with her a couple of weeks ago, but it was wonderful to have mom bring her and my niece and nephew to visit for the day.
My mom and Sr. Maria made two wonderful home-cooked, warm meals, a rare treat at our house these days!
Sr. Maria really enjoyed the chance to get to know all the members of my family. Mike had the day of and he really enjoyed her inquisitive, gentle and sweet personality.

Why Does She Like Her Daddy So Much?

Because he shares good things with her!

In a Land Flowing with Milk...

This little girl is a happy camper because thanks to Laura, Dana and Chelsea our freezer is plumb full of breast milk again! Yeah!
Not only that, but Amanda has offered to begin pumping and storing extra milk for us. She began thinking about donating her breast milk back in March. I think that's really cool.
I found Laura, Amanda and Dana by posting on MckMama's Blog Frog community. I found Chelsea through Milk Share. It's great to find other women who are passionate about providing babies with the best milk on the planet!
In other news, I love the sweet beautiful contrast between the palms of Christiana's hands and the rest of her chocolate skin. Mmmm! Delicious!
Life outside the womb has been rough on Christiana's skin. She broke out in a rash on her ears, neck and face and has a pretty good case of cradle cap. Oh, well. It's all in the life a newborn.

Like It's No Big Deal...

Any ideas why Mike is climbing into the passenger side of his truck?

Because... Tyler passed his permit test today!!! Yeah!!!

Mike took him out for his first drive after dinner. So cool! Sorry about the photos. The boy wasn't too cooperative. Doesn't he know I have a blog to maintain? Sheesh!

Mmm, Salad!

Since my pregnancy nausea began (morning sickness just isn't an adequate description), Mike has done all of the grocery shopping and much of the meal preparation for himself, the boys and Amanda. Bagged cereal, Jell-O, Cheddar Wurst, Ramen Noodles, Baked Beans and Clam Chowder are all new foods for Amanda. Amanda has happily eaten and enjoyed these new foods with her daddy, but there's really nothing like sharing a salad with mom! She even wants to drink the vinegar and olive oil dressing that's left at the bottom!
This is really the closest thing to a meal that I have eaten. I have two of these salads a day. Something about the oil and vinegar makes them very easy to eat. The rest of the time I just have small snacks of fruit, yogurt and oats, cheese, salmon or sweet potatoes. Potato chips and Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread have been good, too.
This salad consists of cheddar cheese, lunch meat, tomatoes, bagged lettuce with carrots and red cabbage, olive oil and vinegar. Sometimes I use ground hamburger or cooked chicken instead of lunch meat. Amanda used to pick out the red cabbage but now she eats it, too.

Four Twists

This style has been working well for us. After a bath, I moisturize Amanda's hair and let it be free and curly. Before or after a nap, I put it into four little poofs. After a couple of days, I add moisturizer to the poofs in order to comb out the tangles. Then I put in these twists. To make the twists, I divide the pony tail into two part. I begin twisting both parts in the same direction. Then I twist them together in the opposite direction and secure with a rubber band. They can be left in for several more days and they are quick and easy to take out, comb through and redo when we want her to look nice. The twists are finally long enough that they don't stick straight out of her head like little anntenas!

The Routine

When Mike replaced my van last fall, he bought me one with those fancy doors that open automatically when you push a button on the remote. At first I thought they were just for silly spoiled people, but I have really come to appreciate not having to wrench open heavy van doors.

It has also come in handy now that I have a toddler and a baby in a carrier. I can push the button and Amanda can climb up into her seat and be out of the way so I can buckle the baby in her spot. This has been the routine after our weekly chiropractic visits.

So, Amanda and I were both dumbfounded when the van door wouldn't open as we walked toward the van. I pushed the "Unlock" button several times and tried again. Then I could see through the window that a door was opening on the other side of the van.

"Oh, I'm pushing the wrong button," I think to myself. I try the other button. "Huh, still not working." Then I realize that two doors are opening and closing on another van through the windows of the van I was standing next to.

"Oh no! My van keys are opening someone else's van!"

"Oh, wait. That is my van."

Alright, who thought it would be funny to confuse the pregnant lady by parking their identically colored van next to mine?

Christiana, Meet the Family

Yesterday Christiana met: 1 great grandmother, 1 grandpa and his friend, 3 great aunts, 2 great uncles, 1 aunt, 2 uncles and three cousins. She also visited with a grandma and two cousins who came to visit us a couple weeks ago. It was a busy day!

What is cuter than a toddler eating her noodles?

Amanda's Pony

For Amanda's birthday, we bought her a pony! Aren't we wonderful parents? Every little girls dream! This pony is neat and clean and gets to stay in the house.

She came with some fun accessories like a blow dryer, comb, and hair clips.
She has beautiful long pink hair so when I'm combing Amanda's hair, she can comb her pony's hair instead of trying to comb her own after I've alreay put it into binders.
I loved playing with My Little Ponies when I was a little girl. My cousins had a whole herd at their house and we spent hours brushing their hair. Of course, the real pony was at our house on the farm and we spent lots of hours brushing her hair, too.

There's just one thing...

There's just one thing Amanda does not like sharing with Christiana. "Her" spot wrapped up on Mama's back. She doesn't mind if the baby is wrapped on front, but when I lay the wrap on my bed to prepare to get Iana on my back, I hear lots of excited chatter and hand gestures. I have been able to distract her by wrapping a baby doll on her back but this time she just wanted to be wrapped up instead. She began twisting the wrap around herself.
So, I obliged and settled for this configuration. This was how I wore the girls through airport security and on the tram to our terminal in Orlando. I wrapped Amanda on my back while Mike unloaded the suitcases. Then I put Christiana in the pouch and finished helping Mike pack the carseats into their bag. Then when we got over to the kiosk to check out luggage, I looked around in a panic because I couldn't find Amanda. Pregnancy brain strikes again!
Wearing Amanda on my back is very tiring and puts uncomfortable pressure on my queasy stomach so I may just need to graduate her out of the wrap. Too bad, so sad.
I'm sure I'll look like this quite often after February. Christiana will be the baby on back and our little tie-breaker will be on front.

A Miscommunication- Again.

Me, to my chiropractor: "I'm really feeling pregnant this week. Everything seems a bit tight."

Him: "Yeah, I'm getting that, too."

Me, in my head, after laughing out loud: Is my chiropractor really confessing to me that he's been putting on a little weight.

Him: "Yeah, your left lower back is really out of place."

Of course, what else would he be talking about.

But back to my original point, stretchy pants are definitely in my near future.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Friends and family have been helping to entertain Amanda by taking her out for walks. She picked this lovely boquet of wildflowers with our neighbor, Bev. She loves to go outside and is very excited when some one comes to the door because she knows there's a possibility some one will take her outside.
It's a little easier to find new entertainment for Christiana. We just pulled out this old favorite to brighten her day.

Happy 15th Birthday, Tyler!

We are very proud of you and how much you've grown up in the last year!

Girls can do it, too!

Not to be outdone by her brothers when they were babies, Iana managed to get me good during a diaper change this afternoon. I wasn't planning on EC'ing Iana, but she already understands the first cue. Diaper off equals time to eliminate!

I would just have to come up with a different strategy since getting up to bringing her to the potty would aggravate the nausea and as my baby belly grows, there won't be much room for her using the same position I used with Amanda.
