More Pictures for Elisa

This is Amanda's new Mini-Me doll from Mariella. The little pants and socks are also from Mari. She has the matching pants and Mini-me doll. The sweater is from cousin Reilly and the hat was knitted by a family friend, Lucy. Lucy also supplied the pretty quilts which Amanda just loves. They are special little gifts from special people!
Amanda is fascinated by the tags on her stuffed animals and will spend great time and deliberation studying them and chewing on them. Her Mini-me was no different. The first thing she did was to grab the tags and put them in her mouth. Mini-me has nice cotton tags so she really liked them.
This is where Amanda hangs out when I need to get a chore done in the kitchen. Since she no longer stays in the corner playing with her toys, I've been using the wrap more often. I made this wrap from 5 yards of $1/yd fabric plus the tie dye. There was no sewing involved. The selvage finishes the edges and I just trimmed the strings off the ends. Elisa and I watched videos in the internet to learn how to use the wrap and I practiced with bags of rice and potatoes, the cat and the neighbor boy before Amanda came home. It's very handy and I love it.

Where's the baby?

It was so funny but a little sad to watch Amanda get so excited to see a little baby in the mirror and then be so disappointed and confused when the baby disappeared as she tried to grab her. She really enjoys other little kids and gets excited when she see them or hears their voices. She reaches out to grab their faces and tries to give them big wet kisses. She had a good time visiting her cousins on Easter Sunday.

We received wonderful news today that our court day for finalization was set for April 9th! We couldn't be more pleased. It will be a relief to have that part complete. Amanda will be eight months old by then. Where has the time gone?

We've also begun to find Amanda pulling herself up on her crib bars. She gets up on her knees and then cries because she's tired of holding on and afraid to let go. She's growing so fast!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

During the first several months Amanda was at home with us, our social worker would call with a list of questions about how things were going. She always asked, "How would you describe Amanda's personality?" I never knew what to say because I thought Amanda acted exactly how I would expect a baby to act; happy when she was fed and sad when she was hungry, wet or tired. I have a better answer now. She reminds me of a little Irish sprite! Full of energy, mischief and joy. She is friendly, outgoing and loves little people. She is good natured and doesn't mind be hugged, snuggled and jostled about. She is determined and persistent in striving for what she wants. She believes with a little effort everything and everyone is within her reach. It been wonderful to watch her scope expand. At first she only grabbed for things only inches away, then feet, and now she will just crawl all over the house for the sheer joy or it. There are so many wonderful things to grab along the way- chairs, drawer knobs, the refrigerator, brother's toes, the cat, the vertical blinds and mom's legs. Thank goodness she sleeps well at night!
All this activity has worn away much of her baby hair. I had to trim some places in the back that just kept getting tangled in knots. The stuff on top is now very long and looks pretty funny if we don't have it in a clip. It's pretty tricky to comb it and secure it because she's just so busy looking for the next adventure.

Just Plain Cute

Here's another cute hand-me-down skirt from Reilly. Amanda doesn't pull herself to stand on too many things, but she can hang on for a long time if we help her up.
This is Amanda's very portable playpen. She can easily tip it over, but it works great to keep her contained while we play a board game or do an art project. We just wedge the basket between the table and chair legs. She's a good baby and plays happily and practices pulling herself to stand.
Here's something new that started over a month ago. As long as we've known Amanda she has cried for about an half hour every evening. All of a sudden, it stopped. This is why. She discovered her thumb and it comforts her. She also quit crying when she wakes up from her nap, so we have to be very diligent to watch the time and go check on her. We often find her quietly sucking her thumb and overjoyed to see us.

Hand-Me Downs

This adorable little outfit came from Amanda's cousin Reilly. I think she got it as a hand-me down, too. We've been really busy. Skiing, skating, snowmobile training and traveling to see family and friends. Amanda tried bananas last week and avocados yesterday. She seemed very interested when we were eating but she isn't very excited about doing it herself. I'm in no hurry and the doctor said there's no rush.
I'd write more but there's too much action at our house for me to think clearly!

Seven Months Old

Today Amanda weighed 15 lbs 1 oz. She's 25 1/2 inches long.
